What is the GUE Master Diver Course?
The Master Diver Course is a limited decompression course designed to take your skills to the next level. You will learn how to use decompression bottles in a double-tank configuration and safely breathe helium-based gas mixtures for deeper recreational dives up to 40 m / 130 ft.
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for advanced divers who:
- Have already completed the GUE Advanced Open Water Diver (Rec 2) or GUE Fundamentals Course.
- Have logged at least 75 non-training dives, including:
- 25 dives after completing the AOW or Fundamentals Course.
- 15 dives with double tanks or, alternatively, have completed the GUE Doubles Primer and an additional 10 dives in this configuration.
What will I learn?
The Master Diver Course will teach you the following:

Physics and Physiology:
A deeper understanding of physical and physiological processes during diving. -
Decompression Theory and Practice:
Learn safe ascent techniques to minimize strain on your body. -
Using a Decompression Bottle:
Safe handling of decompression gases such as Nitrox. -
Helium-Based Gases (30/30 and 21/35):
Reduce narcosis, CO2 buildup, and gas density during deeper dives. -
Manifold/Regulator Failure Procedures:
How to handle technical issues underwater. -
Optimized Gas Management:
Prevent post-dive “nitrogen stress.”
Course Prerequisites and Duration
Participants in the GUE Master Diver Course must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be physically and mentally fit.
- Be non-smokers.
- Know how to swim.
- Obtain a medical clearance if they have any health conditions or use prescription medications (except contraceptives).
- Have successfully completed the GUE Advanced Open Water Diver (Rec 2) or GUE Fundamentals Course.
- Have logged at least 75 non-training dives.
Course Structure
The Master Diver Course typically lasts five days and includes:
- Eight dives.
- At least 40 hours of training, divided into classroom sessions, land drills, and in-water exercises.
