Diving is a safe outdoor activity with low accident rates, but like any activity, participants should be prepared for emergencies and capable of performing rescue measures to assist team members. Being aware of your ability to help will boost your confidence and make your dives safer and more enjoyable.

The GUE Rescue Primer is a course that teaches divers fundamental rescue techniques essential for handling diving emergencies.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

The ability to prevent or manage stressful situations and emergencies underwater is one of the most important skills you’ll ever learn. For this reason, the Rescue Primer should be at the top of every diver’s to-do list.

This course is recommended for anyone who wishes to continue diving at any level. Ideally, the course should be completed after the Navigation Primer, as it requires navigation skills.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

The course content includes:

  • Assisting distressed divers at the surface and underwater, including the recovery of unresponsive divers.
  • Protocols for missing diver scenarios.
  • Surface management during a diving emergency.
  • Diving-specific Basic Life Support (BLS) for Decompression Illness (DCI).

REQUIREMENTS AND DURATION

Participants in the GUE Rescue Primer must:

  • Be at least 16 years old.
  • Be physically and mentally fit.
  • Be non-smokers.
  • Be able to swim.
